In 2019, bridal hair moved away from stiff, sprayed hair to the increasingly popular boho-chic look. Loose waves and pulled out braids photograph beautifully, are very romantic and hold up very well in the humid-hot weather conditions of the Mexican Caribbean.
Doranna predicts the boho trend will stick in 2020 but become maybe even more effortless. “The messier the better!” And while she secretly hopes more brides opt for up-dos, as it’s where Doranna can get the most creative, she understands some brides might just want to leave their gorgeous hair down or partially pinned.
That being said, here’s our round-up of the top five wedding hair trends for 2020 that you need to know about if you are considering a beach destination wedding in Mexico.
1.BRIDAL BRAIDS
Spotted behind the scenes at Berta, Cymbeline, and Suzanne Neville, bridal braids ruled the 2019 shows.
“Romantic, loose, side-swept, crown or bohemian, there’s a braided hairstyle to suit everyone,” says Doranna.
2. BRIDAL FLORAL CROWNS
Seen at Jenny Packham, Wtoo by Watters and Reem Acra, flower crowns are most definitely back on the agenda, and they’re bigger than ever before.
“The catwalks were in full bloom for spring, from oversized floral crowns to individual blossoms nestled in curls. To perfect the look, Doranna recommends styling your hair with defined, soft and shiny curls. Like Brittany in the pic below (makeup by the Doranna Team):
3. BRIDAL BUN
Think Meghan Markle’s wispy big-day bun!!
“Low, high, braided, loose, textured … this hairstyle is a classic. Doranna loves it because it can take an elegant or very boho twist and stays all day!
Our bride Candyce shared: “My hair and makeup lasted literally ALL day and night in pretty hot temperatures (with some humidity), even with an after-party at the club and 4am tacos!”
4. WAVY WEDDING HAIR
Channel your inner mermaid with the new season’s penchant for heavenly waves, as seen on the Monique Lhuillier, Pronovias and Maggie Sottero runways.
This hairstyle requires a lot of spray, volume and pins. And sometimes is not the ideal style for all hair types, so be sure to ask Doranna if it’s the right option for you.
5. WEDDING TIARAS & PINS
A well-placed tiara or sparkling hairpin can make all the difference.
High necks and illusion-backs look stunning with a ballerina bun that shows off details, especially topped off with a tiara.
